PCIS Industrial Visit went behind the scenes at the Land Rover Solihull plant, a stunning brand-new state-of-the-art production facility capable of producing one of its iconic vehicle every 90 seconds!
After a welcome refreshment, students were briefed about the tour and was immediately transported to the factory facility where they were greeted by an army of robots working in complete synchronisation. During the guided tour, the students witnessed what it takes to bring to life some of the most notable Land Rover vehicles that takes an astounding 36 hours to accomplish.
Students were shown to different areas of the facility from the Body Shop to Final Assembly Bay and learned how everything comes together to build this world-renowned vehicle. Students are then taken around the Kingmakers Exhibit, where they follow the story of Range Rover in the footsteps of the Kingmakers themselves. Here they were able to see how the Land Rover visionaries began their story in the 1960s.
The exhibit tells the origin story of design and engineering geniuses that have paved the way of innovation and strategy at Land Rover. It tells an incredible tale of vision, innovation, determination, and collaboration, showcasing the history and celebrating the faces behind it from Spen King to Professor Gerry McGovern OBE.
