Stage 2: Postgraduate Research
Independent Research Mode - Includes a 3,000-word research proposal:
- Research Proposal
Stage 3: Master Programme
Students have to successfully complete the following:
- Pass with at least a B grade the following pre-requisite courses during the first two (2) semesters of their enrolment (i.e. before being allowed to defend their thesis proposal): SZRZ6014 Research Methodology; and/or SCLE6014 Academic Writing.
- Attend at least one (1) colloquium session; Defend a research proposal to a committee.
- Students must submit four (4) copies of their research proposal to the School/Graduate School at least two (2) weeks prior to the proposal defence session.
- The research proposal should cover the following topics: Chapter 1 - Background of the Study, Problem Statement, Research Questions, Research Objectives, Scope of the Study, and Significance of the Study; Chapter 2 - Literature Review; and Chapter 3 - Research Methodology, Research Framework, Hypotheses/ Propositions Development.
- Attend a viva voce session to defend the thesis; and Submit a written thesis.
PROGRAMME DETAILS
Applicants for a Master’s Programme by research must possess:
- A bachelor’s degree with Honours from Universiti Utara Malaysia or any other institutions of higher learning recognised by the University Senate with a CGPA of at least 2.75; or
- A bachelor’s degree from Universiti Utara Malaysia or any other institutions of higher learning recognised by the University Senate with a CGPA of 2.00 to 2.74 and relevant work experience; or
- Any other equivalent qualifications recognised by the University Senate; and
- Fulfil the English language requirement as set by the University Senate
